Cross Country/Track Announces 2015-16 Women's Recruiting Class

Cross Country/Track Announces 2015-16 Women's Recruiting Class

2015 Schedule | Men's Incoming Class

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara cross country and track is set to welcome six women's runners as part of its recruiting class for the 2015-16 season, head coach Felipe Montoro announced Tuesday. The group consists of of four freshmen and two transfer student-athletes.

"We have had bigger recruiting classes, but this one rivals all of our past classes from a talent standpoint," Montoro said. "Associate Head Coach Pete Cushman and Assistant Coach Darius Terry worked really hard to help bring in these outstanding student-athletes. With the addition of these new Broncos, our women have the potential to put together our best team ever. I can't wait for the season to start."

Jamie Ferris (Prairie HS – Wash.)

CROSS COUNTRY

16th @ 3A Washington State Cross Country Championships (19:12)

TRACK

5:20.33 (1600 meters)

11:31.00 (3200 meters)

Coach Montoro: "Jamie will be a great addition to the team. A stellar student and standout cross country runner, Jamie adds depth to our roster this fall and has the potential to be a major factor on the team in years to come. She was very consistent throughout her high school career as well.

Grace Ling (Lynbrook HS – Calif.)

CROSS COUNTRY

10th @ DII California State Cross Country Championships (18:09)

Foot Locker Finalist

TRACK

5:08.90 (1600 meters)

10:54.25 (3200 meters)

Coach Montoro: "Grace is without a doubt the most accomplished high school recruit we have signed in our program. Grace was a top-10 finisher at the California state meet and qualified for the Foot Locker National Championships as well. We will most likely redshirt Grace in the fall as she continues to recover from a spring injury, but when she does compete in future seasons she will make a huge impact.

Heather LaPlante (Northern Arizona University – Transfer)

CROSS COUNTRY

14th place @ Big Sky Cross Country Conference Championships

TRACK

10:00.11 (3000 meters - indoors)

17:21.33 (5000 meters)

36:20.58 (10000 meters)

Coach Montoro: "We could not be happier to be adding Heather to the team. She came to the sport late in high school and improved dramatically at NAU. She will step in and be one of our best runners right away and has the potential to continue to develop into a national-caliber runner."

Bevin McCullough (Marin Academy – Calif.)

CROSS COUNTRY

7th @ DV California State Cross Country Championships (18:58)

TRACK

5:02.94 (1600 meters)

11:13.79 (3200 meters)

Coach Montoro: "Bevin comes from a multi-sport background having played basketball at Marin Academy. Bevin has all the tools to be an elite collegiate distance runner. She has range, she was well coached in high school, and has plenty of room for growth in her training. Most importantly, she has the focus and drive to reach her full potential at Santa Clara. Bevin will make an immediate impact on our team next fall and will fit right in with the culture of academic success we have fostered on the team — an important factor for us in the recruiting process."

Julia Wood (Whitman College – Transfer)

CROSS COUNTRY

7th place @ NWC Conference Cross Country Championships

TRACK

18:32.5 (5000 meters)

Coach Montoro: "Julia did not start running and training seriously until only a few years ago, and improved a lot at Whitman. Julia showed a great deal of potential and she still has so much room for growth in her training that I expect her to be a major part of our team in the future. Like Grace, Julia will redshirt this fall and compete on the track in the spring."

Julia Green (Central Catholic HS — Ore.)
