SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the first member of its incoming class of freshmen for 2015-16, Austin Cram. The first baseman currently attends Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev.

"I chose Santa Clara for baseball and the outstanding academics," Cram said.

As a junior in 2014, the 6-foot-2, 240-pound prospect batted .455 and hit two home runs for head coach Nick Day and the Gaels. Bishop Gorman went 25-5 overall and won the Sunset Southwest League with a 9-1 record en route to a state championship game appearance and the No. 2 ranking in Nevada, according to MaxPreps.

"Austin is a big, strong kid who projects as a middle of the lineup hitter," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "He has been a part of an incredibly successful high school team in Bishop Gorman, and has an edge and a toughness about him that are a perfect fit for our program."

In addition to baseball and academics, Cram has participated in 100 hours of community service. His hobbies include baseball and politics and his career goals include playing professional baseball.

Next week's new Bronco is John Cresto.
