EAGLE, Idaho - The Santa Clara women's golf team got their fall season underway Monday at the BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho at the Boise State Invitational. After the first day of competition, as a team Santa Clara is in 9th place.

Through the first two rounds, the women are led by senior Samantha Trask, who shot a 74 and a 76 thanks to some strong putting, followed by junior Corey Utsurogi, who shot 75 and 85, and defending Boise State Invitational Champion Megan Stoddart who shot 78 and 83.

What began as a gorgeous day to start the fall season quickly turned gloomy. By the time the girls were teeing off for their second round of the day, rain had moved in and the winds had pulled a 180 causing every hole to play completely different than in the first round.

But all of the team's off-season preparation on their mental game and handling adversity paid off big time. In the second round of the day, through wind and rain the team only dropped ten strokes, and junior Hilaire Fouts actually significantly improved on her first round score, turning in a 77 after a first round 85.

Weather shouldn't be as much of problem tomorrow, as the forcast for Eagle, Idaho predicts sunny skies for the entire day, though cold early in the morning with temperatures below 50 degrees and increasing winds, reaching as high as 8 mph by noon. The final round will tee off first thing Tuesday morning.
