Santa Clara Softball Wraps Up Play in Fresno; Bronco Home-Opener is Tuesday at 4 p.m.

FRESNO, Calif. – The Santa Clara University softball team dropped a pair of games Sunday at the Fresno State Weekend Series at Bulldog Diamond. SCU lost 9-1 to Cal State Fullerton, then 8-0 to host Fresno State.

Santa Clara (1-9) will host UC Davis on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the program's 2012 home-opener at PAL Stadium in San Jose.

The Broncos rebounded from a lopsided loss to Cal State Fullerton (5-5) in Sunday's opener, by playing host Fresno State (7-2) tough in the afternoon. FSU and SCU were scoreless through two and a half innings before the Bulldogs broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.

Despite allowing those two runs in the third, Bronco freshman starter and two-way player Jaymi Bautista-Geiger kept FSU off the scoreboard until the sixth. However, Michelle Moses (3-2) was fantastic in the circle for the Bulldogs, three-hitting SCU and fanning seven in a complete-game winning effort.

Santa Clara's singles off Moses came from Briana Knight, Alyssa Jepsen and Bautista-Geiger. Knight went 2-for-3 and hit her second homerun of the season against CS Fullerton. SCU had eight hits on the day.
