No. 19 Stanford Tops Santa Clara; Broncos Conclude 2012 Season

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Santa Clara University softball team finished the 2012 season with a road game at No. 19 Stanford Tuesday night. The 19th-ranked Cardinal jumped out to six-run lead in the bottom of the first and went on to win 12-1 in five innings.

The game at Smith Family Field wrapped up the 2012 season for Santa Clara (11-43), who got an RBI-double from senior Briana Knight, who finishes her Bronco career as one of SCU's all-time best. Stephanie Fisher added a double as well and Alyssa Jepsen, Breezy Bernard, Kelly Scribner and Rochelle Rivera each added base hits.

Stanford (33-16) snapped a four-game losing streak. The Cardinal compete in arguably the top softball conference in the nation - the Pac-12, which boasts the No. 1 team Cal, and No. 2 team Arizona State.

Maya Burns and Cassandra Roulund had big offensive nights for Stanford Tuesday, combining for nine RBI. Roulund doubled in her first two at-bats, then hit a three-run homer in the third to make it 12-1.
