BERKELEY, Calif. – The unanimous pick atop the national polls, No. 1 Cal, handed Santa Clara a 10-2 defeat Wednesday afternoon in Berkeley. The homestanding Golden Bears entered the game ranked No. 1 nationally in both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and USA Today/NFCA polls.

Santa Clara (8-37) is preparing for its 2012 Pacific Coast Softball Conference (PCSC) home-opener against rival St. Mary's this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22 at West Valley College in Saratoga.

Cal (40-2) has won 14-straight games, and is enjoying its fourth-straight week as the nation's No. 1. On Wednesday, Cal scored four runs in the first inning and five more in the second to jump out to a 9-0 lead.

Alyssa Jepsen and Jamie Wallis came up with RBI for the Broncos in the fifth to get Santa Clara on the board. As a team, the Broncos were limited to three hits and the Cal starter Valerie Arioto fanned 13 batters in five innings.
