LA JOLLA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's water polo struggled to generate offense on the opening day of the 16-team Triton Invitational.

The Broncos lost to No. 7 UC Irvine, 16-3, and 11th-ranked Long Beach State, 9-2, on Saturday at UC San Diego's Canyonview Aquatic Center.

In the morning session, Allie Loomis scored a game-high three goals for the Anteaters (3-2) who had 11 players in the scoring column. Julie Swieca, Natalie Seidemann and Megan Falcon each scored twice.

Maggie Oys had two goals for the Broncos (1-4) who were down 8-0 before finally getting on the scoreboard in the third quarter.

Leading scorer Hannah Buck was held scoreless against UC Irvine, but induced four kickouts. However, the Broncos went 1-for-6 on the power play.

Santa Clara had a better start against Long Beach State (1-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Hailey Eberle scored in the opening quarter and a goal by Mara Dominguez in the last minute of the sec-ond quarter pulled the Broncos within 4-2, but LBSU answered with a marker with 6 seconds left before halftime.

Santa Clara was unable to convert on four attempts with the man advantage in the second half when they were held scoreless.

Julia Silvestri posted a game-high three goals and Olivia Grim scored twice, including the one at the end of the second quarter, for Long Beach State.
