Women’s Water Polo Faces San Jose State Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team kicks off a stretch of five in a row on the road when it travels to play crosstown rival San Jose State on Saturday.

The Broncos (10-10) face the Spartans (8-13) at noon at West Valley College.

Santa Clara is pushing through its two-week academic stretch, concluding testing on Friday.

"Finals week can be a difficult stretch during the middle of the season," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "As a team, we've talked about really focusing on water polo during our practice time and using that as a mental break from their studies."

The Broncos competed leading up to finals, defeating Concordia and falling to Cal State East Bay on Saturday. Wilbur discussed the importance of maintaining their competitive edge during the final week of the academic quarter.

"We've scheduled San Jose State right after finals because it is important to maintain that competitive edge from one weekend to the next at this point in the season," said Wilbur. "San Jose State is a strong team, ranked No. 19 in the country. It is a great opportunity to play good competition and get right back into game mode with a big conference game against Fresno State coming up later in the week."

Santa Clara will be on the road during spring break, playing Fresno State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and Fresno Pacific on Thursday at noon.
