LOS ANGELES – Abbey Grosse posted three goals and Morgan Molloy and Daniela Hernandez scored twice each to lead Loyola Marymount to an 8-1 win over Santa Clara women's water polo on Friday in first-round action of the Golden Coast Conference Championship.
Claire Wright posted 12 saves for the second-seeded and host Lions (17-14) who move on to face No. 3 seed San Diego State in one of Saturday's semifinals.
Gabi Sicat had the lone goal for the Broncos (12-17) who will play sixth-seeded Cal Baptist at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in the consolation bracket.
Molloy scored twice in the opening two minutes of the game and Grosse's first goal gave the Lions a 5-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Hannah Buck drew three kickouts and Sicat had a pair, but the the Broncos did not convert on their six attempts with the man advantage.
The Lions went 2-for-5 with the extra attacker.
Sicat's goal came with 4 seconds left in the game.
