ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Hailey Eberle (three) and Kelly Frumkin (two) combined for five goals, including two midway through the fourth quarter, to help Santa Clara women's water polo escape with a 10-9 road victory over Sonoma State on Sunday.
The Broncos (12-15) built an early but had to hold off a charge midway through the game from the Seawolves (6-17) to prevail in the nonconference matchup.
Cassidy Mundt recorded all three of her goals in a 3-minute stretch of the third quarter that enabled Sonoma State to erase a 4-0 deficit and take a 6-5 lead.
But Eberle and Frumkin followed up by scoring within 30 seconds to help the Broncos regain the lead.
JoJo Williams scored twice in the final nine minutes for the Seawolves. She tied the game at 8-all late in the third period.
Eberle scored on the power play with 4:05 left in the game and Frumkin tallied an even-strength marker 59 seconds later for a two-goal cushion.
Williams pulled the Seawolves within a goal with 2 minutes left, but they only had one shot the remainder of the game.
Two goals from Paxton in the opening 5 minutes of the game helped Santa Clara lead 4-0 early in the second quarter.
Taylor Brown, who registered 13 shots, started a run of four straight goals for the Seawolves when she scored on the power play 2 minutes into the second period.
Lydia Dadd earned the win in net for the Broncos by posting 13 saves.
Santa Clara has just one regular season game left. The Broncos play host to Pacific on Senior Day, which is set for noon on Saturday.
