SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will feature three former Santa Clara student-athletes, including Julie Ertz, a longtime member of the U.S. Women's Soccer team.
Joining Ertz in Japan will be former men's basketball player Lloyd Pierce and former women's soccer standout Danielle Slaton.
Pierce is one of the assistant coaches on the men's basketball team and Slaton will serve as an soccer analyst on NBC broadcasts.
A midfielder and three-time All-American at Santa Clara, Ertz is one of 18 players selected for the national team which opens group play Wednesday against Sweden. She was also a member of the 2016 Olympic team.
Pierce has spent nearly 15 years as an NBA coach, including more than two years as the Atlanta Hawks head coach. He was just recently named an assistant for the Indiana Pacers.
Following a stellar playing career that included an appearance on the 2000 U.S. Olympic team, Slaton has served as a broadcaster for a variety of outlets. She is currently an analyst for the San Jose Earthquakes on NBC Bay Area/California.
