SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's and women's soccer programs had a historic Saturday.
Each team posted a victory, one on the road and one at home, and claimed the respective West Coast Conference title for the program and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
It marked the first time since 2006 that one school won both the men's and women's WCC crowns. In fact, the milestone has occurred seven times in league history and Santa Clara has accomplished it all but once (Portland in 1992).
The Santa Clara women needed overtime to down Saint Mary's 2-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon with Alex Loera providing the goal in extra time.

That victory not only assured the Broncos a share of the league title (12th overall and second straight), but also clinched the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. They ended the season with 8-1 conference mark, along with BYU, but the Broncos knocked off the Cougars last week and hold the tiebreaker.
The Bronco men earned the outright WCC title with a convincing 3-1 home win on Saturday night. They have one match remaining next week against LMU, but at 5-0-1 in league play no team can catch the Broncos who have won the WCC title 13 times.
