Special Olympics Northern California is excited to host the Summer Games for the first time in-person since 2019! Summer Games is our largest local competition and features hundreds of athletes and coaches from 25 counties coming together to participate in competitions, activities, social events and more.
Summer Games is a high-visibility, multi-day event which showcases the talent, determination and joy of our Special Olympics community. Along with intense competition, athletes have the opportunity to meet new friends, receive free health screenings and experience independence – often for the first time – all while being supported by family, friends and fans.
Summer Games Weekend Includes:
Friday, June 24
Opening Ceremony: Parade of Athletes, festivities, and the culmination of the region-wide Law Enforcement Torch Run that leads into Summer Games every year.
Santa Clara University 7 p.m. Free to the public.
Saturday & Sunday, June 25–26
Athlete Competitions:
Bocce, swimming, tennis - At Santa Clara University
Track & field - at Santa Clara High School
Most start at 8:30 a.m. and finish around 2 p.m.
Young Athletes Program: Registration Required here. Activities for children ages 2–9. 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Healthy Athletes screenings: Saturday from 12–6 p.m. | Free non-invasive health screenings for athletes in areas such as vision, dental and more. Open to all. Non-athletes Register here.
Olympic Village: Saturday from 12–5 p.m. | Free activities to enjoy between competitions. Open to all.
Athlete Dance: Saturday evening. Athletes and coaches only. No family or public permitted.
