Baseball Picks Up 4-1 Road Win Over San Jose State
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball scored three runs in the first two innings and that's all the Broncos needed with four pitchers combining to hold San Jose State to one run, in a 4-1 road win on a chilly evening at Municipal Stadium.

Santa Clara (2-2) scored in the top of the first on a Jake Brodt grounder that brought home Joe Becht to put the Broncos up 1-0.  Against Spartan starter Brandon Ross, Becht led off the inning with a walk, moved to second when Jason Dicochea was hit by a pitch before getting to third on a double steal with Dicochea.

The Broncos added two more runs in the second inning on a Tony Boetto single to deep right field which brought home Grant Meylan and Zach Walsh, making it 3-0 in favor of Santa Clara.

A three-run cushion is all the Broncos needed with starter Luke Martin-Resnick pitching three innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and three walks.

Santa Clara got another strong outing from the bullpen with Freddie Erlandson, Cade Negley and Penn Murfee pitching two innings each to quiet the San Jose State bats.  The trio allowed just two hits and a run with Murfee earning his first collegiate save dating back to his day at Vanderbilt.

In the sixth inning, with the Broncos up 3-0, Dicochea blasted his first career home run, a solo shot to left field.

Martin-Resnick (1-0) got the win for the Broncos with Ross (0-1) taking the loss for San Jose State (2-3).

The Broncos will return home Friday to open up the weekend series against Wake Forest at 6 p.m. PT.  It marks the start of a nine game home stand for the Broncos.
