Baseball Lose 9-0 at No. 2 Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. – Four Stanford pitchers combined to shutout Santa Clara 9-0 in a nonconference game on Tuesday night at Sunken Diamond.  Beau Branton, Andrew Daschbach and Will Matthiessen supplied the offense for the Cardinal going a combined 6-for-11 and driving in eight of the nine runs for the second ranked team in the nation.

Santa Clara (22-24) had opportunities to score early, putting multiple runners on base in each of the first three innings and four of the first five, but could not push a run across against Stanford starter Brendan Beck.  Beck (6-0) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing six hits and did not issue a walk to remain undefeated on the season.

The Cardinal (38-6) opened up the scoring with a run in the first on Andrew Daschbach's RBI double scoring Nico Hoerner.  Hoerner reached base on a wild pitch by Alex Waldsmith after striking out swinging on what would have been the third out and continued to roll the rest of the game.

Stanford scored two runs in the third on Branton's two-RBI single to bring home Will Matthiessen and Alec Wilson to give the Cardinal a three run lead, and added to its lead with a pair of runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and three runs in the eighth.  Stanford finished with 13 hits compared to seven for the Broncos.

Jason Dicochea (3-for-3, BB) had three of the Broncos hits and reached base in each of his four plate appearances.  Joe Becht failed to safely reach base for just the second time this season.

The Broncos will look to bounce back this weekend in the final home series on the season against Loyola Marymount.  Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PT.
