SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP)--Senior center John Bryant grabbed 22 rebounds, tying his career high, and freshman guard James Rahon equaled his career best with 25 points in Santa Clara's victory over Loyola Marymount 82-56 on Thursday night.
Bryant became the nation's leader in total rebounds for the season with 306, passing Oklahoma's Blake Griffin, who has 295.
Guard Kevin Foster added 20 points for Santa Clara (10-13, 2-4 WCC). He was 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, giving him 54 3-pointers for the season, a Santa Clara record for freshmen. Rahon was more than hot beyond the arc, hitting 5 of 6 three-pointers on the night. Rahon has 14 threes in the last three games.
Vernon Teel led LMU (1-21, 0-6) with 20 points. Jarred DuBois added 12 for the Lions.
Bryant, who had 12 points and 5 blocks, pulled down 11 rebounds in the first half, catching Griffin. He then passed him with an 11-rebound second half. He tied former Bronco Kurt Rambis' Leavey Center record of 22 rebounds. Bryant also grabbed his 16th double-double on the year, just one short of national-leader Griffin of OU.
