Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara freshman Kevin Foster, named the WCC Newcomer of the Year and to the WCC All-Freshman team, was named to the CollegeHoops.net five-man All-Freshman team today.
"We are excited for Kevin in receiving this honor," said Santa Clara head coach Kerry Keating. "This is a great honor to achieve as a freshman. It shows how hard he worked, the team worked and the coaches worked. We are all excited for this team as we move forward in the future."
Foster broke seven Bronco school records, including Steve Nash's single season record for three pointers (Foster had 85, Nash hit 84 in 1995); and Kurt Rambis' SCU freshman record points (Foster had 486, Rambis scored 414 in 1977).
Foster scored 20+ 11 times and led WCC freshmen in scoring (all games, WCC). He played 30.3 mpg, averaged 14.7 ppg, 2.4 rpg and 2.5 apg. Foster started the final 28 games, scoring 17+ in 15 games - including 6 of the last 8 - and had a career-high 31 points at Saint Mary's.
