Santa Clara Announces Two Additional Basketball Signees

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara head basketball coach Kerry Keating announced two additional signees as part of the 2010 Bronco signing class on Thurs., April 15. Julian Clarke (G, 6-3, 192, Toronto, Canada) and Lamb Autrey (G, 6-3, 185, Cibolo, Texas) both signed National Letters of Intent on April 15.

The 2010 Santa Clara class also includes Yannick Atanga (F, 6-8, 212, Yaounde, Cameroon/Ojai, Calif.) and John McArthur (F, 6-8, 235, Danville, Calif.). Atanga and McArthur signed in Nov., 2009. With the addition of the four signees of the 2010 class, Santa Clara has three seniors, two juniors, five sophomores and three freshmen on scholarship.

"I'm really excited to complete this class with the signings of Julian and Lamb. Most importantly, they add the character, competitiveness and success that John and Yannick proved to have this year in their respective senior seasons, and they are all winners," said Bronco head coach Kerry Keating. "Julian provides us with an important ability to shoot the ball well. Lamb provides great flexibility to play both guard positions with and without the ball."

"The most impressive thing about this class is the type of people they are; the students they are now and will be at Santa Clara; and fantastic representatives of the community at Santa Clara," added Keating. "They are all first-class individuals, have been raised well, and are great additions to the Bronco basketball family. Maybe the most impressive thing is how our own Bronco basketball team has come full circle in its ability to recruit itself. One of the best aspects of Julian and Lamb, in joining with John and Yannick, is that they all can't wait to join their future teammates and continue to enhance our program, enrich our future and ensure many great memories along the way. We are really fortunate to have these four young men added to our Bronco family. Julian, Lamb, John and Yannick are all poised for greatness in our program."

"With now our third recruiting class completed and a full roster on hand for the 2010-11 season, our staff should commended for the work they have done through recruiting and relationship building," said Keating.

"It's truly been a team effort and fortunately for us, we have been able to extend that through our entire athletic department. I am proud to have this team represent us on a campus that cares so much about the students and the university."

COACH KEATING ON CLARKE
"Julian comes from a basketball background. His father played a prominent role in Canadian basketball and also played at St. Bonaventure. His mother was a really good basketball player in college. We really feel we have found a gem in Julian. He is someone who has unbelievable drive to succeed in everything he does. He has great academic drive and a willingness to do whatever he needs to help his team win. He has a strong desire to help his team improve and most of all, a tremendous ability to shoot the basketball. Julian will be a great representative of the Bronco community as well as a great teammate. Julian won at the highest level that his high school could achieve in winning the gold medal. He was fortunate to be coached by Anthony Miller as well as his father."

WHY CLARKE CHOSE SANTA CLARA
"I chose Santa Clara University because both my family and I decided it was the perfect spot to develop as a student, an athlete and as a person. The academic situation is great and it is clear that student comes before athlete. The team has a great upside and I am looking forward to being part of a Bronco squad that fights its way all the way to the Big Dance. The team is a great group of guys that are friendly and fun to be around and also work hard on the basketball court. They are closely knit and I am glad to become a part of that also. The coaches are energetic, excited, and knowledgeable and they are also approachable and personable. So are the professors. The class sizes are ideal and teachers want you to succeed. It is a beautiful campus and everyone on it is on your side. I feel that going to Santa Clara for four years means going to Santa Clara for life. I can develop a network and family of people at this university that will stay with me wherever my life may lead. There is nothing more that I could want out of a university. I'm thankful, excited, and ready to work! Go Broncos!!"

COACH KEATING ON AUTREY
"Lamb has the needed experience that we were looking for, especially for our young backcourt. He too comes form a strong background of discipline and willingness to improve. He had the great opportunity to play for two years with Coach Sigona, which has further developed his ability to play at a high level while being coached. Lamb possesses the athleticism and skill-set to play both guard positions while utilizing his length to be a multiple-position defender.

WHY AUTREY CHOSE SANTA CLARA
"First of all, the academic side of Santa Clara was a major plus. Highlights for me were definitely basketball, the schedule Santa Clara plays and the chance to play in the WCC, the people on the campus and the certainly the coaches and players. I really liked the team. It's also a beautiful campus. I felt like I knew everyone since my first step on campus, they were so welcoming and had so much energy. I really can't believe it. With me being from Texas, I am used to just seeing California on TV and now I will play there. I am really looking forward to it. My parents are with me 100 percent and are happy for me. They are excited to come and have a nice place to visit."
