Santa Clara sophomore Scott Thompson, a 7' 0, 245lb. center from Meridian, Idaho, will take a medical leave of absence from the Bronco basketball team due to a heart condition that has also kept him out of all pre-season activity. Thompson is not expected to play this season, as his family and doctors feel this is the best course of action, Bronco head coach Kerry Keating announced today.
"We had hopes for Scott on the court this season, but our first and foremost priority always remains with our players health and well-being," said Keating. "We will continue to help Scott get what he needs in order to lead a healthy life in the future. Additionally, Scott will continue his efforts in the classroom and will uphold his academic obligations, as he is on pace to graduate."
"It's the hardest decision I've ever had to make, but when it comes to my health, it's a most important decision," said Thompson.
Thompson, a business management major, averaged 0.9 ppg and 0.8 rpg in 26 games played last season after redshirting his freshman year.
