Santa Clara to play Wofford, Northeastern to play Kent State

The Broncos will play in the consolation game of the 43rd annual Cable Car Classic on Wednesday at 6pm vs. Wofford. In the championship game Kent State will face Northeastern. It will be the first-ever meeting between Wofford and Santa Clara.

Despite Niyi Harrison's first double-double of his career the Broncos were defeated by Northeastern 62-50. Nkem Ojougboh's 12 points and 13 rebounds led the way for the Huskies. Santa Clara falls to 7-7 and Northeastern moves to 4-7.

Santa Clara shot 29.1 percent from the field and 7.7 percent from beyond the arc. Santa Clara had 34 rebounds, seven assists and 12 turnovers. Northeastern shot 39.2 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from beyond the arc. Northeastern had 41 rebounds, 10 assists and 13 turnovers.

Trasolini led the Broncos with 14 points and collected eight rebounds. Harrison finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Robert Smith added 11 points and four assists. Matt Janning led the way for Northeastern with 18 points. Chaisson Allen added 14 and Manny Adako finished with 10.

Ray Cowels opened up the scoring with a jumper at 19:11. Northeastern went on 15-8 run in the next nine minutes to take a 17-10 lead, but Trasolini ended the Huskies' run with two free throws at 9:15.

Allen nailed three free throws at 7:50 to put Northeastern up 20-12 but Harrison responded with a dunk at 5:53. Harrison's dunk was the first field goal for the Broncos since Trasolini's bucket at 11:45.

Janning's layup at 5:42 put Northeastern up, 26-16, with 3:38 left in the half. Trasolini knocked down four free throws in 44 seconds to cut the Huskies' lead to six with 2:05.

Robert Smith hit a jumper, the first field goal since Harrison's dunk at 5:53, with 41 seconds left in the half to cut Northeastern's lead to four and the score at the half was 26-22 Northeastern.

Smith opened the second half with a layup at 19:00 but Janning nailed a three to put the Huskies up 29-24. Harrison responded and scored four straight points for the Broncos to cut Northeastern's lead to 29-28.

Harrison knocked down two free throws with 14:13 to tie the game at 35. This was the first time that Northeastern did not have the lead since 13:48 left in the first half when the game was tied at eight. The Huskies took the lead back with a dunk by Ojougboh at 13:35.

The Broncos tied the score at 39 with a layup by Trasolini at 9:34 but the Huskies took the lead once again on a basket by Ojougboh.

Harrison added another dunk at 6:58 to bring the Broncos within two points, 43-41, but Baptiste Bataille hit a three at 5:49 to put Northeastern up 46-41.

Allen's two free throws at 1:15 pushed the Huskies' lead to 54-45. Cowels converted a three point play with 56.8 seconds left in the game to cut Northeastern's lead to six.

Two free throws by Janning with 18 seconds left put Northeastern in front 62-50.
