SCU Releases 2009-10 Men's Basketball Schedule

SCU Releases 2009-10 Men's Basketball Schedule

Aug. 21, 2009

After advancing to the West Coast Conference semi-finals in 2009 with the WCC Player of the Year and the WCC Newcomer of the Year, Santa Clara released its 2009-10 basketball schedule today. It will play six games vs. 2009 post-season teams during the 2009-10 season, including a school-record 18 home games.

The complete schedule, with all televised contests and WCC game times, will be released in mid-September. All Bronco men's basketball games will be carried live on KDOW 1220 AM with Anthony Passarelli making the call for the third season.

Santa Clara will host the 43rd annual Cable Car Classic - the longest running annual university tournament in the country on Tues., Dec. 29 and Wed., Dec. 30. Santa Clara won the tournament last year and this year's tournament will feature the Broncos, Kent State, Wofford and Northeastern.

Santa Clara, who lost All-American John Bryant and Calvin Johnson to graduation, will have one of the youngest teams in the country with no seniors and nine freshmen and sophomores.

"We're excited to have our season laid out in front of us now as we head into the fall and preparations for a challenging slate," said third-year Bronco head coach Kerry Keating. "As always, the West Coast Conference presents tremendous competition and great environments to play in, and this season should be no different, if not one of the most balanced top to bottom in recent memory. Coupled with our non-conference games, we are anxious to compete 18 times in the Leavey Center this season, and are especially excited to get our young team on the floor!"

Santa Clara University will host the West Coast Classic in late November and early December. The Classic represents five different Division 1 conferences including the West Coast (Santa Clara), the Mountain West (San Diego State), Big Sky (Northern Arizona), Big West (Pacific) and WAC (Fresno State).

The West Coast Classic is considered one of the first of its kind because each school gets to host two home games. Santa Clara will host two games in the exempt event this season and can host an event like this once every five years.

"The opportunity to schedule up to 31 games in a season is difficult and by utilizing what is available to us by way of a multi-team event hopefully will provide all the schools that are involved more access to their own fan base," said Keating. "We are glad we could make this come about and look forward to competing with the teams involved."

Santa Clara will play six games vs. 2009 post-season teams: at San Diego State on Nov. 19 (NIT Semi-Finals), vs. UNLV on Dec. 5 (NIT), vs. Saint Mary's on Jan. 10 and at Saint Mary's on Feb. 4 (NIT second round); and vs. Gonzaga on Jan. 28 and at Gonzaga on Feb. 25 (NCAA Sweet 16).

Season tickets are available for purchase at the Leavey Center ticket office (500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, Calif.) or by calling directly at 408-554-4660. Because of their special status with Santa Clara Athletics, Bronco season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase single game tickets, including Gonzaga, St. Mary's and UNLV, before the official release of single game tickets. In addition, all new season ticket holders will receive 10% off their ticket order.

If you are interested in a private seating selection tour, please call 408-554-4660 to make a reservation today.
