Men's Rowing Finishes Weekend Against Pac-12 Opponents

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Santa Clara men's rowing continued a busy opening to the season with races against Cal and Stanford on Saturday and against Oregon State on Sunday. The team races with its Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 boats against each opponent.

"We figured a number of things out this weekend," Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell said. "The Stanford Invitational is a great opportunity to try different line-ups over the course of the weekend. We faced some very good crews and to get into the mix with them is really important for our team and its progression toward Western Sprints and the IRA National Championship. We are a very young team and this weekend a number of first year guys stepped up to make a real impact in both boats."

Saturday started with the Bears. The Broncos finished the V8 race in 6:09.45 with the Cal coming in at 5:44.30. In the 2V8, the Bears won with a time of 5:54.21 as Santa Clara finished at 6:20.17.

That afternoon the Broncos V8 finished at 6:42.90, behind the Cardinal's 6:19.40. The 2V8 saw Stanford finish at 6:40.70 with Santa Clara coming in at 6:54.80.

Sunday began with the Beavers V8 coming in at 5:55.74, ahead of the Broncos 6:08.37. Santa Clara won the final race of the weekend with the 2V8. The Broncos finished at 6:07.07, just edging Oregon State's 6:08.51.

"Our 2nd Varsity 8 had a tremendous race against Oregon State on Sunday morning," Farwell said. "It was a huge boost of confidence for that boat as well as the rest of the team. We have some good momentum coming out of the weekend for our trip to Spokane to take on Gonzaga."
