Men’s Golf Back In Action Saturday At ASU Thunderbird Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's golf team returns to tournament play Saturday in the 13-team Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational, played on the Sun Devils' own 7,002-yard, par-71 Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.

The Broncos will again compete against some of the top teams in the country with tournament host Arizona State the fifth-ranked team in the country in the current Golfstat.com poll. Nine of the 13 teams are ranked in the top-100 with Santa Clara at No. 96.

A disappointing finish at The Goodwin has the Broncos looking for a bounce back effort. "We have three tournaments to go. We'll use the next two to prepare for the conference championships," head coach Rob Miller said.

Santa Clara ended a string of 10 consecutive sub-300 rounds with a final round 306 on the Stanford Golf Course, dropping the Broncos from contention for a top-10 finish at the prestigious event that featured eight teams ranked in the Golfstat.com top-40.

Sophomore Hayden Shieh and junior Tyler Kertson will lead the squad on Saturday. Shieh has a team-best 70.63 scoring average with Kertson right behind at 72.63. They were Santa Clara's top two finishers at The Goodwin.

Freshmen Michiel Eyre III and Derek Ackerman, along with junior Evan McLeod make up the Broncos' five-player team in Arizona.
