Shieh Leads Men's Golf on Opening Day of ASU Thunderbird

TEMPE, Ariz. - Hayden Shieh shot a 2-under 140 during Saturday's opening two rounds of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational to lead the Santa Clara men's golf into a tie for 10th in the team standings.

Shiel, who shot rounds of 71 and 69, is tied for 14th in the individual standings. The Broncos posted rounds of 295 and 288 for a total of 15-over-par.

Iowa State leads the 13-team field at 18-under-par after shooting rounds of 273 and 276. Arizona State, the host school, is just one shot back, following round of 277 and 274 on the 7,002-yard, par-71 Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Arizona.

Santa Clara's Derek Ackerman is tied for 43rd at 6-over with rounds of 71 and 75.

The Broncos will tee off at 8 a.m. Pacific in Sunday's third round with South Dakota State and Princeton.
