SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On Friday night, the Santa Clara men's soccer team opens the home portion of its 2015 season at Stevens Stadium (formerly known as Buck Shaw Stadium) – which was renamed and remodeled this off-season.
The Broncos play seven straight matches at home during the month of September, beginning with Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Cal State Fullerton Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.
Now officially billed as Stevens Stadium and Buck Shaw Field, the 6,400 seat on-campus venue has undergone major renovations since last fall. The centerpiece to the new facility is the Stevens Soccer Training Center, a 7,000-square foot building adjacent to the playing surface, which offers state-of-the art amenities for both the men's and women's soccer programs.
The project also included the installation of new stadium seats and press boxes on the west side of the facility, a renovated plaza and concession area, logoed signage wrapping around the original seating, and the removal of the original press box and outdated video board.
Santa Clara (0-2-0) is coming off season-opening losses on the road to Wake Forest and No. 5 North Carolina. However, the Broncos have historically been a tough team to beat in Santa Clara.
Rast has won over 140 games during his 13-year tenure as SCU head coach. He fields a team with some notable all-conference talent, including senior goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh, defenders Matt Escobar and Parker Holland, midfielders Max Ornstil and Edson Cardona, along with forward Carlos Delgadillo.
Wisconsin (0-2-0) is looking for a turnaround after a 3-12-3 season. However, the Badgers were blanked by Butler and No. 19 Xavier at home last weekend. A match against UC Davis on Sunday wraps up the team's only scheduled West Coast trip this season.
Cal State Fullerton (0-2-0) was 10-8-6 last year – which included a 1-0 home victory over Santa Clara. Coming off losses to Ohio State and Wright State, the Titans will host George Washington Friday night.
