SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara's men's soccer team could not put in a game-winner to beat a struggling Pacific team Sunday. The two teams played to a scoreless draw at Stevens Stadium through two overtimes.
Santa Clara (6-7-1; 1-1-1 WCC) owned a 16-8 advantage in shots and had 10 corner kick opportunities to UoP's five. The Broncos were coming off a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over St. Mary's on Friday.
"It's tough coming back on a Sunday," said Santa Clara's Parker Holland. "We were working hard, but just couldn't get one to go in. This is a tough one for sure."
Pacific (1-11-1; 0-2-1 WCC) entered the match having scored just once in its last seven games, but was able to hold the Broncos off the scoreboard through both overtime sessions and 110 minutes to pick up a point in the conference standings.
"It's disappointing we could not get the result today," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "We felt like we were the better team coming in."
The Broncos had their chances, putting five shots on goal, including a blast from Jonathan Jarrett that hit the cross bar in the 47th minute. Jarrett was one of 10 different SCU players to register a shot.
In contrast, Pacific did not put a shot on frame.
SCU split its first three WCC games – all at home. The Broncos' next three will be on the road.
