CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Two members of Santa Clara University men's tennis team closed out action today at the 2004 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Senior Taylor Bedilion and sophomore Jan Macek battled in the singles Round of 64, but could not come up with victories. As a duo, the Broncos defeated Parker Ross and Scott Newmark of Butler by an 8-4 score in the doubles Round of 64. They followed with a tiebreaking loss to a team from Louisiana State in the Round of 32.
The pre-qualifying tournament includes a 192-player singles draw and a 96-doubles team bracket. Top finishers will feed into a 128-player singles and 64-doubles team qualifying tournament Oct. 4-6. The main draw (64 singles, 32 doubles) takes place Oct. 7-10. With more than 350 competitors, a prequalifier would have to win up to seven matches just to reach the main draw.
The Icy Hot tournament is the first of three national championship events to take place during the 2004-05 season at the Division I level.
The entire Bronco squad will reunite at the SCU Bronco Classic, October 8-10 at the Degheri Tennis Center.
