Broncos Sweep Eastern Washington

March 18, 2005

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis team did not lose an individual set en route to a 6-0 shutout over Eastern Washington in an intercollegiate dual match Friday that was moved indoors to Clubsport due to inclement weather.

The Broncos improved to 7-7 on the season and will return to the courts on Monday to play 9th ranked Stanford at Taube Family Tennis Center in Palo Alto.

"Our guys really competed very well and it showed with each of them taking straight-set victories," said head coach George Husack after the win. "We are playing pretty well right now and the guys are very anxious to play Stanford on Monday. Even though it will be a tough road match at one of the country's top programs, Monday's match will provide us a great opportunity to continue to progress as a team."

The Broncos started out hot with Eric Kochanski, Francisco Zepponi and Bobby Rasmussen all failing to lose a first set game for the Broncos at the three-through-five positions. Taylor Bedilion and Jan Macek both earned 6-1, 6-2 wins at the top two spots, while A.J. Kerin had the toughest outing of the match, taking a 6-3, 7-5 victory.

Husack also announced a change in the date and schedule for the Bronco Alumni Invitational scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, March 19, due to the inclement weather. The new date and time are Saturday, April 30 from at 3 p.m.

"We've been blessed with great weather for this event the last several years, but you can't beat mother nature," said Husack. "The new date is going to be quite a day for Bronco athletics with the opening of the new baseball stadium with our event following."
