Women’s Golf Places Ninth At 20-Team Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Aided by a final round 303, the Santa Clara women's golf team claimed a ninth place finish in the 20-team Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate completed today at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Broncos entered today's final round in a tie for 10th place after rounds of 307 and 314 on Saturday and finished with a 924. Paced by sophomore Ashley Noda, who scored a season-low 73 (+1) in today's final round, the Broncos carded the fourth-best team score of the day and finished one shot behind Fresno State (923) and three shots behind UC Riverside (921). Cal State Fullerton (909) took the team title by one stroke over Cal State Northridge (910).

Noda's final round score was the best of the tournament for Santa Clara and a 10-shot improvement from her second round total. She finished with a three-round total of 235 and tied for 47th place.

Freshman Annie Freman was the Broncos' top finisher placing in tie for 11th place with CS Fullerton's Tisha Alyn Abrea at 10-over 226. Freman missed her fourth consecutive top-10 finish by one shot. Her final round 75 left her one stroke behind Fresno State's Madchen Ly.

Cal Poly's Taylor Yoshitake and Clariss Guce from CS Northridge shared individual honors each shooting a 3-under 213. Yoshitake was declared the winner on a scorecard playoff.

Sophomore Meghan Shain sandwiched scores of 77 around her second round 75 to place in a tie for 21st with a 229 (+13). Kaci McCartan shot a final round 78 for a 234 total and tied for 41st place, one shot better than Noda.

The Broncos return to action on Oct. 21 when they host the two-day Colby Invitational at Silver Creek Valley Country Club.
