Women’s Golf Ties For Seventh; Freman Earns Top 5 Finish At Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Competing against some of the top programs in the country the Santa Clara women's golf team carded the second-best 54-hole team score in program history with a 901 and ended the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in a tie for seventh place. Freshman Annie Freman led the Broncos shooting an even-par 216 to tie for fifth place, her fourth top-5 finish of 2013-14.

Santa Clara scored a 302 in Tuesday's final round and tied with Coastal Carolina and Cal State Fullerton. Oregon, the top ranked team competing in the event at No. 20 according to the most recent Golfstat rankings, took the team title with an 876, two shots better than No. 35 UC Davis. Tournament host and 77th ranked San José State placed third with an 883.

The Broncos, ranked No. 105 by Golfstat, shot rounds of 307 and 292 on Monday and their three-round score is second only to the 875 scored in winning the Boise State Bronco Fall Classic on Sept. 17, 2013.

Freman shot a 1-over 73 today to finish at even-par, tied for fifth with Oregon's Cassy Isagawa and Paige Lee from UC Davis, three shots off the lead. It was the fourth top-5 and seventh top-10 finish for Freman in her eight events.

Cathleen Santoso of Oregon, Martina Edberg of CSU Fullerton and Sammi Stevens of New Mexico all shared individual medalist honors finishing at 3-under 213.

Kaci McCartan, Monique Riley and Taylor Camany all finished within three shots of each other on the leaderboard. McCartan placed 39th with her 229 (+13), Riley tied for 44th at 231 (+15) and Camany finished in a tie for 48th at 232 (+16)

Meghan Shain had the second-best round of the day for Santa Clara with a 2-over 74 to finish with a 241.

The Broncos return to action on Monday, March 24 competing in the three-day Avenue Spring Break Classic in Maui, Hawaii.
