Two Broncos Honored With Soccer America Postseason Awards

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Junior goalkeeper Bianca Henninger was selected as a second-team MVP and freshman Julie Johnston was named to the All-Freshman First Team in Soccer America's annual collegiate postseason awards, which were released just before the end of 2010.

Henninger was a critical component of the Santa Clara defense and single-handedly kept the Broncos in several games, including a 12-save performance against Long Beach State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament that tied a Santa Clara NCAA record set by Sue Wall at North Carolina in 1992.

Henninger led the WCC in overall saves (90) and save percentage (.865) and was the conference-only leader in saves (20) and co-leader in shutouts (3).  She finished the season with a 13-6-2 record, a WCC second-best eight shutouts, and a 0.67 goals-against-average.  The Los Gatos, Calif. native has received several distinctive awards this season, highlighted by becoming Santa Clara's first NSCAA first-team All-American since 2004 and being named the U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year.

Johnston, the 2010 WCC Freshman of the Year, started 16 of 20 games played, scored two goals, and led the team with five assists for nine points. The Mesa, Ariz. native made an immediate impact for the Broncos, picking up her first collegiate point by assisting on Maxine Goynes' game-winning goal in a 1-0 win in Santa Clara's season opener over San Diego State and following that up with another assist the Broncos' second game of the season.

Johnston scored in matches against Pacific and Gonzaga and had her first career multi-point game against No. 19 BYU, assisting on both Bronco goals in a 2-1 win over the Cougars.
