Santa Clara, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis team earned its first victory against University of Pacific since the 2002-03 season by a score of 6-1 today on the mission campus. The Broncos are 6-0 overall and 1-0 in WCC play going in to a match vs. Washington State this coming Friday February 11th.
The Broncos won five of the six singles matches and all doubles matches to earn the doubles point. "Today was the best performance of our season so far," said head coach Ben Cabell. "We're really happy with this 6-0 start and it feels great."
Freshman Katie Le beat Pacific's nationally ranked senior Jenifer Widjaja 7-5, 7-6 (4).
"Katie did fantastic today. She played really well at the end of each set, and it's really impressive that she was able to win against such a talented opponent," said Cabell. "Even though we did well against [Pacific] last year, getting a win today makes us feel like we are definitely going in the right direction."
The Broncos will head north to Pullman, Washington this week to take on Washington State, Gonzaga and Kansas beginning February 11th at noon.
