Santa Clara, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team will host the University of Portland this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Broncos are 13-4 overall and 3-2 in WCC play.
Portland is 9-7 overall and lost their only WCC match to Gonzaga, 2-5 on March 26. Pilot sophomore Valeska Hoath is 6-0 so far in the month of March however, after recently defeating UCSB and CSU Northridge opponents.
"Portland is always a tough match and conference opponent," said head coach Ben Cabell. "The last couple of years we have gone back and forth with them, so they are traditionally a good team. They have a lot of new players this year so we aren't exactly sure what to expect."
The Broncos have posted a strong 8-1 record on their home Degheri courts this season. "We always love playing at home, especially when the weather is nice," said Cabell. "The girls always tend to play with a lot of energy during home conference matches."
With just two remaining home matches and WCC opponents left in the dual season, the Broncos hope to harness that energy and sweep remaining play. "We're looking to go 4-2 in conference," said Cabell. "It's really important to have a winning record going in to the WCC tournament."
Following the match with the Pilots, the Broncos will travel to UC Davis April 16 and then wrap up regular season play the following day against University of San Francisco.
Stay tuned for updates.
Go Broncos!
