Pullman, Washington – The Santa Clara women's tennis team wrapped up its three-day road trip in Washington today with a 4-0 victory over Kansas. The Broncos are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in WCC play.
The Broncos swept the Jay Hawks in all three doubles matches, and won the No.1, 2 and 3 singles spots to secure the team victory. (The No. 4, 5 and 6 singles matches were still in progress when the match was called.)
Coach Cabell on the victory: "We were really happy with this win because Kansas is a good team, and had played Washington State tough the day before. We came out early and set the tone in doubles, and then took advantage of that early success and carried it over in to singles."
With a tough loss on Friday to nationally ranked Washington State and two solid victories over Gonzaga and Kansas on the weekend, Cabell is very pleased with his team's performance.
"We played really well on the road considering our only loss was very tight, and that we were playing tough matches three days in a row. Overall, the trip was definitely a success."
The Broncos will take on the Mustangs of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this coming Friday February 19th at 2:00 p.m. and the Texas San Antonio Road Runners the following day at 11:00 a.m. at the Degheri Tennis Center.
