SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis team earned its third WCC victory of the season, 5-2 over LMU today on the Degheri Courts. The Broncos are 10-2 overall and 3-0 in WCC play.
The Broncos won two of three doubles matches, and No. 1 Katie Le and No. 2 Kelly Lamble quickly tallied singles wins (6-2, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively) to give the Broncos a solid footing. "Our top two girls are playing really well right now, which is great to see," said head coach Ben Cabell.
LMU posted wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, but the middle of the lineup proved to be too much. Alex Zaniewski rallied from losing the first set 4-6, to win the next two 6-2, 6-1. Kacie Wagner also showed resiliency at the No. 4 position to come back from a first set loss to win the following two 7-5, 6-4.
"We really like how the girls competed to day," said Cabell. "Even though we were down in some singles matches, the girls showed toughness and pulled out good wins."
The Broncos will host San Jose State Spartans this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
