SantaClaraBroncos.com: Why did you choose Santa Clara?
KD: I chose Santa Clara because it is the perfect combination of academics
and athletics. I also enjoy the small setting, which gives it a more
personal feeling in and outside of class. It's also really close to
home, making it easy for my family to come visit. It has always been
the school that felt most comfortable to me.
SCB:Can you tell us about some of the advantages and disadvantages of going
to college so close to home?
KD: It's really convenient for my family to be able to visit and come to all
our home games. And since we haven't had enough time off for me to
actually go home on the weekends, my sister has been able to come visit
almost every Sunday to just hangout, and occasionally go shopping.
There are no disadvantages!
SCB: Have you set any personal goals for yourself coming into your
first season at Santa Clara?
KD: Win the WCC and the NCAA tournament.
SCB: When you first realize that you wanted to focus your energy on becoming a volleyball player?
KD: In eighth grade I stopped playing other sports because I began to
really enjoy volleyball, and it was becoming really time-consuming
taking lessons and playing club.
SCB: Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
KD: I like to listen to my iPod and visualize the game.
SCB: What's your favorite way to spend a rainy day?
KD: Watching movies at home near the fireplace.
SCB: If you could have one super-power, what would it be and why?
KD: I would want to be invisible because then I could travel anywhere for
free by sneaking on planes.
SCB: Do you have a favorite quote or motto?
KD: "Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game."
SCB: Who is your favorite professional athlete?
KD:Tom Brady.
SCB: Outside of volleyball, what's your favorite sport?
KD: Tennis
SCB: Can you give us a random fact about yourself that we wouldn't
guess by looking at you?
KD: We used to have over 30 animals as I was growing up (horses, dogs,
chickens, gerbils, cats, rabbits, peacocks, pig, iguana, donkey,
chinchilla, hedgehog). Almost anything you can imagine.
