West Coast Conference Announces 2016-17 Men’s Basketball Schedule

2016-17 Men's Basketball Schedule

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The Santa Clara 2016-17 men's basketball schedule has been finalized with Wednesday's announcement of the West Coast Conference slate.

The 18-game WCC schedule, featuring games each Thursday and Saturday for a nine-week period, kicks off Dec. 29 when the Broncos play at BYU.

Santa Clara, in its first season under head coach Herb Sendek, has four stretches of at least three consecutive home and road games.

After playing the home conference opener vs. USF on Dec. 31, the Broncos face Portland in Leavey Center on Jan. 5, before embarking on three straight road games – at LMU (Jan. 7), San Diego (Jan. 12) and Pepperdine (Jan. 14).

That opening string of five games is followed by four home contests, which include the top three finishers in last year's WCC standings. Gonzaga, which placed second, visits Leavey Center on Jan. 19, followed by LMU two days later. BYU, third in the 2015-16 standings, hits town on Jan. 26, before defending WCC Champion Saint Mary's closes out the homestand on Jan. 28.

The Broncos then embark on their longest stretch of road games of the season, playing twice in the state of Washington and two in the Bay Area. They play at Portland on Feb. 2 and at Gonzaga Feb. 4, prior to returning to the area for road games at USF (Feb. 9) and Pacific (Feb. 11).

The last two weeks of the regular season feature home tilts against Pepperdine (Feb. 16), San Diego (Feb. 18) and Pacific (Feb. 23), and the finale at Saint Mary's (Feb. 25).

Conference game times will be announced in the next month, once the WCC finalizes the broadcast schedule. Santa Clara nonconference opponents were announced last week and start times for those contests will be announced soon.

The WCC Tournament is set for March 2-7 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The Broncos will play eight of their 13 nonconference games in Leavey Center, beginning the regular season on Nov. 11, against Northern Arizona during the opening day of the 50th Annual Cable Car Classic. UC Davis and Tennessee State round out the four-team field in the three-day event.

The Broncos will play one exhibition game, facing Life Pacific College on Nov. 5 in Leavey Center.

Santa Clara is currently practicing for its summer exhibition tour to Italy, where it will play three games. The team departs Aug. 20 for the 11-day trip and has 10 practices leading up to the tour. Dates and opponents have not been set.

The season ticket renewal process is underway and concludes Friday, Sept. 16. Prospective season ticket holders may place a $50 deposit for priority access once the renewal window ends. Beginning Monday, Sept. 19, new season ticket holders may begin selecting their seat locations.
