FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 47 Santa Clara men's tennis team cruised to a victory against Big Ten Conference foe No. 74 University of Iowa with a final score of 4-3 in Arkansas on Saturday. The victory makes the Broncos 5-3 overall in the season.

The Broncos' weekend is not over yet. Santa Clara takes the court again tomorrow Sun., Feb. 13, against the SEC opponent No. 71 Arkansas at the Dills Indoor Facility. The first serve is set at 11:00 a.m.

Santa Clara changed its line-up and this turned out to be a victorious strategy.

At No. 2 doubles action, Tom Pham and Maxime Armengaud paired up for the first time in an official match this season to earn a convincing 8-1 win against Austen Kauss and Mitch Beckert pair. Teammates John Lamble and Euguene Muchynski also had the first victory with their new pair against the Hawkeyes' Garret Dunn and Nikita Zotov, 8-6, at No. 3 position to bring an early doubles point to the Broncos.

In singles, Nicolas Vinel moved up from the usual No. 4 position to play at No. 3 singles against Will Vasos, which brought a solid victory, 6-4, 6-2.

Pham and Muchynski carried their momentum from the earlier doubles victories. They both grabbed a win over Dunn, 7-6, 6-3, and Chase Tomlins, 6-2, 6-1, respectively, which gave the Broncos the firth victory of the season.

"Iowa gave us a great challenge today, but I really like the way my team responded," says men's tennis team head coach Derek Mills.
