SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's tennis team was drafted to play in the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend event, which features the nation's top programs. Santa Clara, ranked No. 49 nationally, is scheduled to face No. 52 Boise State and either No. 7 Stanford or No. 61 St. Mary's at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford.

The tournament will take place January 27-30, 2012, with winners of each site advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 17-20 in Charlottesville, Va. at the Boar's Head Sports Club (hosted by the University of Virginia).

The ITA Kick-Off Weekend includes 60 total schools spanning 15 sites. The No. 1 seeded team in each site will face the No. 4 team. The No. 2 seeded team will face the No. 3 team. Two matches are guaranteed - the winners/losers will play the following day. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to Charlottesville.

This is the second-straight year the Broncos have been drafted to play in the event.

"We are proud to be among the top 60 teams in the nation and play at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend," said SCU men's tennis head coach Derek Mills, who guided the Broncos to a No. 2 finish at the West Coast Conference Championships this Spring.

"Our goal is to be ranked inside of the top 25 next season. With us being the second-seed in this event, we will play a tough first-round match against Boise State. Playing top teams on the national stage will be exciting and will also be a great opportunity for our players."

Go Broncos!
