Water Polo Wraps-Up Three-Win Weekend at Aggie Shootout

DAVIS, Calif. - After winning two games on Saturday, No. 14 Santa Clara men's water polo returned to the pool and fell to La Verne 15-11 and took down Chapman 12-9. Santa Clara is now 7-5 overall and 5-3 in WWPA play in 2012.

On offense Tucker Carlson had another big day as he scored six goals to lead the Broncos. Jimmy Moore added three goals as did Kyle Nadel and James Rude. Between the pipes John Nash collected 12 saves and Matt Pritchett had seven.

The Broncos will return to the pool Sept. 29-30 at SoCals hosted by UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif.

"We had a rough game in the morning so it was good to se us bounce back vs. Chapman," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "We had a good weekend finishing at 3-1 and did well on offense. When we are playing well on offense we are moving more and creating counterattacks. We stressed getting more movement in the half court to create more looks and to get the ball to two meters more and that's what we're doing."

Santa Clara and La Verne played a tight game to open the day. Santa Clara trailed by one, 7-6, at the end of the first half and 10-9 and the end of the third quarter. La Verne, however, was able to finish strong, outscoring the Broncos 5-2 in the fourth to seal the 15-11 victory. Bilz led the offense with three goals while Carlson, Johnson and Nasser scored twice each. Kyle Nadel and Jimmy Moore rounded out the Bronco scoring by scoring one goal apiece. Nash had five blocks and Pritchett had one.

The second game of the day saw Santa Clara bounce back with a 12-9 win over Chapman. Santa Clara led 2-0 after one quarter and 6-3 at halftime before finishing off the victory. Carlson led the way with four goals while James Rude added three. Nadel and Moore had two goals each and C.J. D'Arienzo scored once. In net, Nash collected seven blocks and Pritchett had six. In addition to the goal scoring, Nasser had three earned ejections as well as earning two five meter penalty shots and Carlson had two earned ejections and one penalty shot.
