Men's Water Polo Takes Down Whittier on Day Two of WWPA's

WHITTIER, Calif. – Looking to bounce back on day two of the WWPA's, No. 19 Santa Clara men's water polo beat the eighth seeded host Whittier 10-8. The win puts the Broncos' overall record at 10-19 and sets-up a match-up with Pomona-Pitzer on Sun., Nov. 18 at 10:45 a.m. for fifth place.

The Broncos were led on offense by a quartet of two-goal scorers. Jimmy Moore, Evan Chang, Chase Schaaf and James Rude each found the back of the net twice and Matt Kochalko and Mark Davis scored once apiece. Kochalko added two assists and Davis had three and an earned ejection. Kyle Nadel, Theo Nasser and Chang each had two earned ejections while Garrat Johnson had an earned ejection and drew a penalty shot. Between the pipes John Nash had six blocks and Matt Pritchett had five.

"I thought the guys bounced back today," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur. "We started off down 2-0 but went on a big run to sort of put the game away. They made a little run at the end but it wasn't enough. We played well and tomorrow we'll play for fifth place and try to end the season on a win."

Santa Clara trailed after one period 2-1 but came back with a big second quarter to take a 5-3 lead into halftime. The Broncos took the third quarter as well by a score of 4-3 and won the game by a final of 10-8.
