SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the final day of The Rodeo tournament, No. 19 Santa Clara men's water polo picked up a 15-11 win over Fresno Pacific and a lost to No. 12 Brown by a final of 9-7. The Broncos are now 9-13 overall in 2012.

Kyle Nadel led the team with four goals scored on the day while Jimmy Moore had three. Mark Davis, Stephen Bilz, Evan Chang and Tucker Carlson scored two each while Garrat Johnson, Matt Kochalko and James Rude scored once each. Goalkeeper John Nash had 13 blocks and Matt Pritchett had 22.

Santa Clara returns to the pool on Sat., Oct. 27 when it hosts LMU at 1 p.m.

In the first game of the day, Santa Clara was able to jump out to a 4-3 first quarter lead but Fresno Pacific came back to make it a 7-7 game at halftime. The Broncos, however, played a strong third quarter and went up 12-9 going into the fourth and ultimately won 15-11. Nadel led the offense with four goals while Moore had three. Davis and Chang each had two goals and Kochalko and Rude added one each. Davis added three assists while Kochalko, Nadel and Tucker Carlson had two each. Nadel also had three steals. In goal Nash collected four blocks in the first half and Pritchett had 11 in the second.

"We really got our offense going in that first game and came out playing hard," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur. "We were really pushing our counterattack and moving a lot of half court offense. We had some really good, explosive drives and that opens up everything for us. We also picked up our defense in the second half and were able to get the win."

In its final game of the weekend, Santa Clara fell behind 4-2 after one quarter and was unable to mount a comeback, ultimately falling 9-7. Nasser, Bilz and Carlson each scored twice while Johnson had one goal. Bilz and Moore had two steals apiece while Chang had five earned ejections. Nash collected nine blocks and Pritchett had 11.

"The guys came out with a fire against a really good team in Brown," said Wilbur. "I would say that was the best game we've played this year even though we didn't get the win. It's good for the guys to know that if they go all out and get after it they can play at a high level. If we keep playing like that every game, we'll learn how to win against tough teams."
