Water Polo Wins Two in First Day of Aggie Shootout

DAVIS, Calif. - In the first day of the 2012 Aggie Shootout, the No. 14 Santa Clara men's water polo team won both games on Saturday with a 12-4 victory over Claremont and a 9-7 win over Cal Lutheron. Santa Clara's record now sits at 6-4 with a 5-2 mark in WWPA play.  On Sunday, the Broncos will take on La Verne before a rematch against Chapman University who Santa Clara came from behind to defeat 14-12 two weekends ago at the Inland Empire Tournament.

To start the day Santa Clara defeated Claremont 12-4.  The Broncos started strong in the first two quarters, out-scoring Claremont 5-1.  The Broncos continued their offensive onslaught with a 3-1 goal differential in the third quarter.  SCU scored four to the opponent's two in the fourth quarter.  Jimmy Moore had two goals in the early going and so did James Rude.  John Nash had five saves in the first two quarters and Matt Pritchett added two saves in the third quarter.

Santa Clara defeated Cal Lutheran in the second match of the day, winning 9-7.  John Nash had five saves in the first two quarters and Matt Pritchett scored five himself in the last two quarters.

The Broncos took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter with Mark Davis and Kyle Nadel adding goals.  Nadel scored four goals in the game.  Both teams scored three each in the second quarter and matched each others efforts in the third, with one each.  SCU put the game away by outscoring Cal Lutheron 3-2.
