Water Polo Can't Take Down No. 12 LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After a strong weekend at the Rodeo Tournament, No. 19 Santa Clara men's water polo returned to the pool to take on No. 12 LMU in a matchup of WWPA opponents. Santa Clara lost the game by a final of 12-7. The Broncos are now 9-14 overall and 6-7 in WWPA action while the Lions move to 12-9 and 8-2 in conference.

Santa Clara's next game is on Sat., Nov. 3 at 12 p.m. vs. No. 11 UC San Diego at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

"I thought we played LMU a lot better than earlier in the year at the SoCal Tournament," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "The biggest difference in the game today was their execution on six on five in the first half. They had a high percentage and we didn't which let them build a big lead. We can improve on that by improving our defense on six on five as well as improving our own execution. I thought the guys played really hard and even though we were down we made a good run in the fourth quarter. We're still making some mistakes that we need to fix if we want to beat the number one team in our conference."

The Broncos played tough in the first quarter and the game was tied 2-2 going into the second quarter. LMU was able to score four goals in the second to go up 6-2 at halftime. Santa Clara was able to play the second half close, 6-5 in favor of LMU, but it wasn't enough as the Broncos fell 12-7.

On offense Tucker Carlson led the offense with three goals, all in the fourth quarter. Stephen Bilz had two goals while Kyle Nadel and Jimmy Moore had one goal apiece. Moore and Nasser collected two steals each while Nasser also had two earned ejections. In goal, John Nash had three blocks and Matt Pritchett had five.
