Career-Best Round From Riley Leads Women’s Golf To Fourth At WCC Championship

BREMERTON, Wash. – Led by a career-best round from sophomore Monique Riley, the Santa Clara women's golf team was the only squad to improve its second round score ending the day with a 303 to move into fourth place at the West Coast Conference Championship contested at the 6,083-yard, par-72 Olympic Course at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

Riley birdied the par-4 18th hole to finish at 1-over 73 today in tough conditions leading the Broncos to an eight-shot improvement over Monday's first round score. The Broncos climbed a spot in the standings with their two-round total of 614.

"We played much better today," said head coach Krystal Kelly.

Tournament favorite and 12-time defending champion Pepperdine was the only team to score below 300 today with a round of 294 and leads the field by 13 shots with a total of 579 (+3). Gonzaga is second at 592 with BYU in third at 607.

Freshman of the Year candidate Annie Freman carded a 2-over 74 and moved into a tie for 10th at 151 (+7). Riley, whose previous best round was 74, moved into 12th place at 152 (+8).

Meghan Shain and Taylor Camany both shot a 78 today and are within one shot of each other in the overall standings. Shain is tied for 15th with her two-round total of 155 (+11) while Camany placed 17th at 156 (+12). Junior Kaci McCartan was three shots better today with a 79 and has a tournament total of 161.

Gonzaga's Alice Kim is the only player under par at 4-under 140 and widened her lead with a 1-under 71 today. She enters Wednesday's final round with a four shot advantage over Pepperdine's Grace Na.

"We'll be very process oriented tomorrow," Kelly said. "This will be very important since the weather forecast has a 90 percent chance of rain."

The Broncos will start Wednesday's final round at 8:30 a.m. (PDT) teeing off from the 10th hole in 10-minute intervals with golfers from USF.
