Fall Sports Start Delayed

Fall Sports Start Delayed

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After an extensive review of various contingency plans, the West Coast Conference will delay the start of competition for the 2020-21 season until Sept. 24, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fall sports impacted by the decision of the WCC Presidents' Council include men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.

"This was the best course of action under the current circumstances," director of athletics Renee Baumgartner said. "We continue to look out for the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches and staff as our country is dealing with this pandemic."

While men's water polo is a member of the Western Water Polo Association, that program will fall under the same guidelines.

The WCC indicated it will continue to discuss scheduling options for all sports.

Men's and women's basketball, slated to begin competing Nov. 10, are not impacted by this decision.

Competition schedules for sports will be released when completed.
