SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Join us in spotlighting some of our loyal and valued season ticket holders. This week features the Szucs Family. Samantha and her father, Alzex Szucs are men's and women's basketball season ticket holders, and also have season tickets for men's and women's soccer, volleyball and baseball.
How did you become a Santa Clara Broncos fan?
It all started with Santa Clara men's basketball. My mother used to work with a lady who had connections with going to the games. They were having a conversation about how my father and I are huge sports fans, especially of basketball and she offered to get my parents and me tickets to a game. My dad and I kept attending games and started meeting other fans like parents, coaches and players. Since we became so friendly with everyone we never wanted to leave! Then, I was starting to get introduced to lots of students from other sports so we decided to go cheer on one of the players on the women soccer team. After the game, Santa Clara offered signed autographs from the players where we were able to meet more of the players. That's when we decided to become season ticket holders for women's soccer and I became their number one fan. We then decided to become season ticket holders for men's soccer and women's basketball because my father and I were getting bored when the other teams were traveling for their away games. After two or three years of supporting Santa Clara men's basketball, we finally became season ticket holders for five different sports.
What does attending Santa Clara Athletics games mean to you?
Attending all the sports at Santa Clara means a lot to me. With having epilepsy, it's hard to look forward to things but knowing there is a game or a mini vacation coming up it takes my mind off my health. I also love attending the games because it is time for my father and me to hang out. When we first started attending games we were so quiet with each other because we didn't want to act weird in front of one another. But over the nine years of going, we are so open to talking to people, each other, and cheering loudly. Attending games has made my dad and me so much closer.
What was the most memorable game you've been too?
There are so many memorable moments with so many different sports. The best memories I have for men's basketball are all the upsets especially playing Saint Mary's. I get so excited when we upset a team, I have tears of joy in my eyes every time. My favorite memory is when I finally went to Vegas for the West Coast Conference Tournament for basketball. It was the first time my father and I went in the eight years of being season ticket holders. I love all my mini vacations but this one was the best because I got to meet Dick Vitale and Andy Katz at the tournament.
What has been your favorite giveaway?
I love all the giveaways, but I think the one I like the most is all the posters of the athletes. Each of the players gets their own poster and I miss being able to go through the autograph line and meet players and coaches after games.
What do you miss most about attending Santa Clara Athletics games?
I miss everything about Santa Clara. The campus, the sports, the people, and the energy. I love when I would walk into a game and someone would say my name. I felt so important and loved by everyone! I also miss going to the games, meeting all the new players, making new friends and getting new gear.
