SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the fifth member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Andre Nnebe. The outfielder/right-handed pitcher currently attends Saint Mary's College High School in Albany, Calif.

"I chose Santa Clara because of the great connection I had with all the coaches," Nnebe said. "I really enjoyed the team atmosphere when I came down to games and I am excited to attend an exceptional academic university with such a strong baseball program."

Nnebe hit .404 with three home runs and 17 RBIs as a junior in 2014-15 for head coach Casey Filson and the Panthers. Saint Mary's edged Pinole Valley 6-5 in 10 innings to win the Tri-County League Tournament and went on to finish as runner-up in the Division IV North Coast Section Baseball Tournament.

"Andre is one of the most gifted players that we have seen play in the last four years. Beyond just size and strength, his skill level is second to none," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "Many guys his size, at his age, have a problem with coordination or speed, but Andre is the rare athlete that has all these physical attributes at a young age.

"He has some of the best raw power of any hitter I have ever seen, and he has enough speed to steal bases at this level and beyond. Andre also has a chance to contribute on the mound for us right away. We couldn't be more excited about Andre and his future as a Bronco."

The 6-foot-6-inch, 220-pound prospect earned First Team All-TCAL honors in each of the last two seasons and was selected to the Oakland Athletics Area Code Team in 2015. Nnebe has a 19-4 record alongside a 1.94 ERA on the mound in three high school seasons. He and the Panthers were TCAL and NCS runners-up in 2014, and were TCAL and NCS champions in 2013.

Outside of baseball, Nnebe's interests include traveling, fishing and watching sports. He has been named to the school's honor roll in all trimesters to date. For his senior project, the soon-to-be Bronco is collecting baseball equipment for the inner city youth of Oakland and Richmond.

Next week's future Bronco is Bryson Spagnuolo.
