SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the sixth member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Bryson Spagnuolo. The right-handed pitcher currently attends Fallbrook High School in Fallbrook, Calif.
"Santa Clara University offers me the opportunity to grow as a student and athlete while surrounding myself with the best that college can offer," Spagnuolo said.
Spagnuolo went 11-3 with three saves and struck out 103 batters in 89 innings as a junior in 2014-15 for head coach Walker Camacho and the Warriors. The soon-to-be Bronco hit .308 and posted a .509 on-base percentage. He led the Valley League in wins, strikeouts and on-base percentage, and finished third in San Diego Country in strikeouts.
"Bryson brings great stuff in a small package. Of all the guys that I have seen, he has some of the best swing and miss stuff in the class of 2016," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "Bryson has shown that he can be a workhorse because of great work ethic and supreme athleticism. This class is so special and Bryson is another pitcher who has a chance to step in and throw major innings as a freshman."
The 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound prospect earned First Team All-Valley League Honors as well as CBAC All-Southern California Team recognition in 2014-15. Spagnuolo has been tabbed as a Perfect Game USA Underclass Honorable Mention All-American in each of the last two seasons. He played for the Seattle Mariners Scout Team and was the winning pitcher in the Southern California Scout Ball All-Star Game.
Next week's future Bronco is Zach Walsh.
