Rick Lamb Posts Opening Round 66, One Shot Off Lead

STOCKTON, Calif. – Last season's West Coast Conference 'Freshman of the Year,' Santa Clara University's Rick Lamb is just one shot off the lead at the University of the Pacific's Invitational in Stockton after posting an opening-round 66 Monday.

Lamb's round of 5-under at the Brookside Country Club puts him alone in third place among the 58 players in the field.

"Fortunately for the team Rick had three eagles today," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller on Monday. "He also had four birdies three bogeys and a double bogey. Definitely an entertaining round."

"The course is in a great shape, the conditions were perfect. Have to be under par to be in contention in this event. There are 36 holes to go and if we play like we are capable of we can be in the mix."

No other Bronco broke par and the team is tied for sixth among the 12 schools competing. The tournament host, Pacific, is the first-round team leader. The tournament stretches out over three days, with second and third round play set for Tuesday and Wednesday.
